Effects of a Dietary Supplement on Metabolism, Muscle Performance, and Physical Function
This project is not recruiting.
Overview
What we are studying
In this study, we want to find out if an oral dietary supplement, NMN, is safe to take without causing too many side effects. This study will also help us find out how this study supplement is metabolized (processed) in the body and if it has any effect on muscle performance, physical function, or aerobic endurance. NMN contains the nutrient called β-nicotinamide mononucleotide. NMN is a naturally occurring nutrient that is found in all living things and in various food products. Also, NMN is similar to the important B vitamin known as niacin. NMN is a nutritional supplement and not an FDA approved drug. It is sold as a nutritional supplement in the USA without FDA’s approval under the statute of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). In this study, this supplement is NOT being used to evaluate the nutritional supplement’s ability to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent a disease. The clinical investigation is intended only to evaluate the effects of NMN on healthy volunteers. This research study will compare the study supplement, NMN to placebo. The placebo looks exactly like NMN, but contains no active drug. During this study, participants may get a placebo instead of NMN. Placebos are used in research studies to see if the results are due to the study drug or due to other reasons.
