What we are studying

We are looking for healthy female volunteers to participate in an 8-month research study at Massachusetts General Hospital. The goal of this study is to better understand how an osteoporosis medication effects changes in bone soon after beginning the medication.

You may be eligible if:


- You are postmenopausal


- You are at least 50 years old


- You are at high risk of bone fractures

The study requires 7 outpatient visits (in addition to a screening visit) to MGH, involving blood tests, X-ray measurements of bone mineral density, and one-time bone biopsy.

Estimated Time Commitment

8 visits over 8 months


Participants will receive $35 for each visit they complete, plus an additional $500 for completing a bone biopsy, for a total of $780. We will also pay for parking at the hospital.

Study Phase

Phase 4: This project studies a drug or treatment that has already been approved by the FDA and studied in both healthy volunteers and participants with specific diseases or conditions. It will gather more information about long term safety and will help to understand how the drug or treatment can be most effective.
