What we are studying

In this study, we aim to depict the impact of social determinants of health on people living with multiple sclerosis in the USA.

Why it is important

To date, the multiple sclerosis field has concentrated on individual risk factors in multiple sclerosis. Race, gender, or region may have heterogeneity and not fully reflect social determinants of health. If multiple social determinants of health could be studied, measured, and combined, they may become important in understanding disease outcomes such as multiple sclerosis relapse incidence, disability status, patient-reported quality of life, and even survival.

What we hope to accomplish

To determine the key variables of interest and relevance for a social determinants of health index for people living with multiple sclerosis in the U.S. using mixed methods including patient and caregiver focus groups, operationalization of social determinants of health variables, and MS patient and caregiver feedback.
