Overview
What we are studying
We are studying which of two formulations of influenza vaccine, the standard dose or an investigational higher dose, is more effective in reducing deaths and heart– or lung-related admissions to the hospital in patients with heart disease.
Why it is important
The flu can lead to complications like hospitalizations and/or death, particularly in patients with heart disease. In fact, influenza-related death is more common in people with heart disease than any other chronic health condition.
What we hope to accomplish
Research findings based on INVESTED may benefit future patients by helping us understand whether a high dose or standard dose influenza “flu” vaccine is better for those with heart disease.

Phase 4: This project studies a drug or treatment that has already been approved by the FDA and studied in both healthy volunteers and participants with specific diseases or conditions. It will gather more information about long term safety and will help to understand how the drug or treatment can be most effective.
